A Few Things On My Mind.....
I'm feeling kind of gyped on the whole kindergarten registration experience now. I was standing outside the classroom yesterday waiting to pick Lulu up from school when I overheard the "Award-Winning Most Unfriendly Mothers in Preschool" (that is a whole other blog entry) talking about their kids' registration in another school district. And then I came across something in one of the blogs I read about their registration. And lastly, as I was filling my car up with gold gas this morning, I happened to look across the street at the elementary and there in a BIG colorful banner read: "Kindergarten Roundup!" Turns out, all these other schools are having these really fun "roundups" for registration. The kids wear cowboy hats and get fun packets full of stickers and folders and t-shirts and junk. And they have free pizza and bounce houses and the kids have entertainment while you're taking care of the paperwork instead of hanging on your leg whining, "When can we goooooo? I'm thirrrrrsty! Can I go play out on the plaaaaaaaygrounnnnnd?" Shoot, all we got was a blue pencil and a name tag. Yee-Haw!
So as best as I can figure, our ancestors just wore dirty clothes if it was a rainy week, right? Because I really, really, really don't want to use my dryer, but it's been rainy all week and when it's not raining, it's 80 degrees and so humid you can bearly breathe. And no breeze whatsoever. I hung a load out yesterday and it took like 4 hours to dry. But the girls are down to their last two pairs of underwear and they had to wear my t-shirts last night to sleep in because I was out of nightgowns (Aunt Sharron, you have alot of sewing to do). I'm about to run out of dish towels, too, and I refuse to use dirty dish towels. That's just gross.
I went into Target yesterday to buy some teacher gifts. Who started this whole "give your teacher a gift at every holiday and birthday and end of the year" thing? I'm sure they appreciate it, but my word, it gets expensive. And at this school, not only do they give teachers gifts, but the director as well. Lulu has two teachers, plus Mrs. Angie (who Lulu ADORES) who does spanish, music, and stretch-n-grow, plus the director. So that's like 12 gifts a year! And we haven't even been there a full year! Target didn't have anything cute yesterday so I said forget it and just bought both teachers subscriptions to Real Simple magazine. That'll have to do because i'm not putting much effort into it considering all the ordeals we had at the beginning of the semester.
That is all. Good day.
Oh yes!! We had teacher appreication day in addition to Christmas, Valentines, year end stuff. And we had to do directors, subs, music teachers, chapel teachers.... And I've heard of a Kindergarten Round-Up too - odd.
ReplyDeleteIt's the principal of the thing regarding the kinder registration, but the principle of the thing for the clothes drying and teacher gifts.
ReplyDeleteyou would think having summer vacation would be gift enough for a teacher...
ReplyDeleteWell my little cousin AJ did get to go to "Kindergarten Round-up" (we've been talking a couple of times a week on the phone - mostly about important stuff like ninja turtles and spiderman) but he got two shots at the "Round Up" so he wasn't so much a fan! :)
