The Simple Things Make My Day
Every month the electric bill would sit in my mailbox and smirk: "Hehe, wait till she sees me THIS month! I bet she'll keel over before she even gets half way back to the house." Then I would open it and have to do Lamaze breathing the rest of the day to prevent my untimely death. Well, a couple of months ago I got fed up and started some research on the Power To Choose website. I switched our carrier and figured that would save us a few bucks a month. Then, we had someone tell us that our thermostat could be faulty and cause wasted electricity. So we figured it couldn't hurt to replace it because a thermostat was about $40. So we installed it and have noticed that the A/C and heater don't keep turning off and on as much. Now granted, the weather has been relatively nice, but there have still been plenty of days when we needed the heat and days when the house needed cooling down in the evenings. I got the first electric bill with the new carrier a couple of days ago and do you know how much money we saved compared to last month? $200! I know! This past weekend, Kevin hung a retractable clothesline for me and I have only had to run the dryer once this week--that's because my father in law/neighbor turned his sprinkler on full blast and lovingly soaked all my almost-dry clothes. (forced smile--that's okay!) I am SO looking forward to seeing what that next electric bill will be.
My goodness. That is amazing. And I so want a clothesline. Please, more details!!!
ReplyDeleteNow, that's just sad that you have to ask for more details about a clothesline!! You must not have grown up in the country...or maybe it's just sad that I'm that old!!
ReplyDeleteLOL mimi!! Does the air just dry the clothes? Is that how it works? I've never heard of such a thing! :) But really, Kellie, can I see a photo?
ReplyDeleteSAVE 25-30% MORE off your electric bill by switching your lightbulbs to flourescent bulbs. Get them at Home Depot- a six pack for $10. It might cost you $50 - $60 to replace the entire house but the bulbs last for 7 years and if one goes out before then, just call the 800 on the actual bulb and they will send you a new one for free. They can tell by the code printed on the bulb how old the bulb is.
ReplyDeleteAmber--they're cheaper at Sams. You can get a 12-pack for $13.
